A few decades ago, the UK had numerous theme parks scattered across its coast and countryside. While popular spots like Blackpool Pleasure Beach still offer the classic amusement park experience, some parks have faded into abandonment.
One such park is Frontierland in Morecambe, a place frozen in time with its rides rusting away. Despite its nostalgic charm, the park closed its gates for good in 2000 after years of declining visitor numbers.
Frontierland, which opened in 1987 as one of the UK’s earliest theme parks, boasted attractions like log flumes, a Wild West theme, and thrilling rides. Over the years, iconic features like the Cyclone rollercoaster and the 150-foot Big Wheel came and went, with some attractions finding new homes in other parks owned by Geoffrey Thomson.
After years of neglect, Lancaster City Council acquired the Frontierland site in 2021, sparking interest from developers to revitalize the area. While proposals have been in the works, no concrete plans have been announced yet, leaving Frontierland to stand as a nostalgic relic of bygone days.
