A 24-year-old police officer has passed away a week after sustaining injuries while responding to a car accident. Northamptonshire PC Faizaan Najeeb was involved in a collision with a blue VW Polo while attending a single-vehicle crash in Station Road, Raunds, around 12.35 am on September 19. PC Najeeb was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge but tragically succumbed to his injuries early on Friday, according to Northamptonshire Chief Constable Ivan Balhatchet.

A man in his 20s who was detained at the collision scene has been released on bail pending further inquiries. PC Najeeb had been part of the response team in Wellingborough since he joined Northamptonshire Police.

In tribute to fallen officers, PC Najeeb’s collar number P1967 will be retired in his honor. Chief Constable Balhatchet expressed profound sorrow over the loss of an officer in the line of duty, conveying the condolences of the entire Northamptonshire Police family to PC Najeeb’s loved ones during this difficult time.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, with dedicated family liaison officers providing support to PC Najeeb’s family in the coming days and weeks. Additionally, an internal health and safety inquiry is being conducted.

Northamptonshire Police intends to observe a two-minute silence at its Wootton Hall headquarters in memory of PC Najeeb, where a flag has been lowered to half-mast.

This news follows the on-duty passing of PC Ian Minett from Gloucestershire Police in June, which is currently classified as unexplained by Gloucestershire Constabulary. The force expressed deep sadness over PC Minett’s death and extended sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues, requesting privacy for the bereaved family during this challenging period. Adam Williams, chairman of Gloucestershire Police Federation, remembered PC Minett as a well-liked and valued member of the force, emphasizing the significant loss felt by all who knew and worked with him.
