Britons are advised to get ready for potential flooding following a yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office for heavy rain. The warning encompasses a large area of western Scotland and is in effect until midnight today. The Met Office anticipates significant rainfall that might result in flooding and disruptions on Saturday.

The forecast indicates that the rain will persist and intensify at times before gradually moving northeastward on Saturday evening. Rainfall between 30 to 50 mm is expected across the region, with up to 70 mm possible in western areas, posing a risk of flooding and disturbances.

Individuals in the affected regions are urged to create a flood plan and assemble an emergency flood kit. Essential items for the kit include torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack.

To determine the risk of flash flooding at their residences, Scottish residents can visit the Scottish Environment Protection Agency website. It is recommended to compile a list of crucial contact numbers such as those for local councils, insurance firms, and utility providers to prepare an effective flood plan.

Additionally, taking precautions like securing valuables, learning how to turn off electricity or gas supplies, and offering assistance to vulnerable individuals in the community can be beneficial. Flood kits should contain essential items like insurance documents, torches, first aid supplies, warm clothing, water, and snacks.

The Met Office emphasizes the importance of checking road conditions and transport schedules to avoid delays during adverse weather conditions. Being prepared for power outages by having necessary items like torches and batteries is advised. Staying updated with weather forecasts in the area is also recommended as weather warnings can change rapidly.
