Police are investigating a case where a woman in her 30s was sexually assaulted by a group of men in a churchyard at St Mary’s Church in Banbury, Oxfordshire. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, and it is believed that a member of the public tried to assist the victim.

Thames Valley Police are seeking to speak with the Good Samaritan who intervened and have appealed for information. Detective Sergeant Mark Personius has urged anyone who witnessed or heard anything between midnight and 2:30 am in the area to come forward. He also encouraged individuals to review any CCTV, dashcam, or mobile phone footage that may be relevant to the investigation.

A specific witness, a woman who attempted to help the victim, is of particular interest to the authorities. Detective Sergeant Personius emphasized the importance of her potential testimony in piecing together the events that transpired. Residents and businesses in the vicinity have been thanked for their cooperation during the investigation.

A scenewatch has been established at the church for forensic examinations, and the police are conducting house-to-house and CCTV inquiries. Individuals with information are encouraged to contact the police through various channels, including a dedicated webpage for the investigation with the reference number 43250495078.
