Calls are increasing for authorities to initiate a fresh investigation to locate the remains of a young girl who was murdered almost 70 years ago. Sandra Brown suspects that her father, Alexander Gartshore, may have been responsible for the death of 11-year-old Moira Anderson in 1957. Brown claims to possess new information regarding the potential location of Moira’s body, alleging that it was discarded in a disused mineshaft in Blairhill, Coatbridge.
According to Brown, records indicate that only a limited number of mineshafts were accessible in the area, with some being near a bus route that her father frequently drove. She suggests that by considering factors such as accessibility and visibility from the road, the search could be narrowed down to a couple of potential sites reachable in darkness back in 1957.
The information has been relayed to the police by an individual associated with James Gallogley, a former suspect in Moira’s murder alongside Gartshore. Despite the prime suspects being deceased, Moira’s sister, Janet, residing in Australia, expressed gratitude for the new details and emphasized the family’s enduring desire to uncover Moira’s remains.
Janet highlighted the persistent pain of not knowing Moira’s final resting place after almost seven decades, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. Sandra reiterated the importance of continuing the search for closure, especially considering the impact Moira’s disappearance had on the community and her family’s unwavering hope for resolution.
Gallogley reportedly admitted his involvement in disposing of Moira to a relative before his passing, shedding light on the potential whereabouts of her remains. Detective Superintendent Colin Hailstones affirmed the police’s commitment to thoroughly evaluating any fresh leads related to the case.
