Holidaymakers often seek staycations during peak times, but booking over the weekend can lead to higher expenses. It is recommended to wait until the weekend rush subsides and business travel plans are finalized. Tuesday is considered the best day to book holidays due to increased availability and fast accommodation filling by booking platforms.

Many hotels have a 24 to 48-hour cancellation policy, leading them to advertise any canceled rooms at discounted rates. Some great last-minute hotel deals may surface after 6 pm, especially if you are nearby. However, this strategy may not apply to major hotel chains like Premier Inn and Travelodge.

Travel expert Linda Reynolds suggests booking early for the best deals. For example, Travelodge offers rooms for £35 or less when booked in advance. Utilizing platforms like Google Hotels, Kayak, and Trivago can notify you of price drops, helping you secure great holiday deals.

When planning hotel stays, opting for Sunday through Thursday can be more cost-effective, avoiding weekend price hikes. It’s wise to consider school holidays, bank holidays, and local events that can escalate prices. In cities, Sunday nights are usually cheaper than Fridays or Saturdays, while weekdays are more affordable in rural and coastal locations.

For a London trip, consider accommodation in zones two to three outside the city center for better value and convenient transport links. This strategy also applies to other major cities like Glasgow, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Bristol. Money coach Maddy Alexander-Grout recommends exploring the Plans Change marketplace to find discounted trips, with savings starting at 25% off.
