The latest speed tests from Ookla have revealed that Three Mobile is leading the pack in the UK’s mobile network arena, surpassing its competitors in providing fast download speeds for on-the-go streaming. Three secured the top spot with an impressive average download speed of 214Mbps, outperforming its closest rival by over 80Mbps.
Ookla’s rankings placed Vodafone in second place and EE in third, with O2 trailing at the bottom in terms of speed across all categories. Ookla confirmed Three as the fastest 5G network in the UK for Q3-Q4 2025, based on a Speed Score that considers download and upload speeds along with latency metrics to evaluate overall speed performance.
Here’s a summary of Ookla’s results:
– Overall Speed Score:
– Three: 53.46
– Vodafone: 43.05
– EE: 36.73
– O2: 30.70
– Median download speeds:
– Three: 214Mbps

While acknowledging the challenges of testing mobile networks due to users’ mobility and changing network conditions, the results position Three at the forefront. The recent merger with Vodafone is expected to further enhance performance, as the newly formed VodafoneThree aims to revolutionize the UK’s mobile network with an £11 billion investment.
Following the merger in May, VodafoneThree has started integrating the two networks using “Multi-Operator Core Network” technology, enabling seamless connectivity between Vodafone and Three customers at no additional cost. This integration holds the potential to offer broader coverage and improved performance nationwide.
