Britain is bracing for strong winds and heavy rainfall in the upcoming days as winter weather brings stormy conditions across the country. According to fresh weather maps from WXCHARTS utilizing MetDesk data, stormy weather is expected to hit on October 19 and 20. By Sunday evening, a significant band of rain is projected to stretch from Cape Wrath in Scotland to Portsmouth in the South of England.
While coastal areas like Cornwall, Suffolk, and Kent may avoid the downpours, most regions should prepare for showers ranging from 0.3mm/hr to 3mm/hr. Gloucestershire, Lancashire, and Devon are anticipated to be the most impacted areas. The following day, conditions are predicted to worsen with strong winds, particularly affecting the west coast and Midlands of England, where gusts could reach up to 62km/hr (38mph) in certain locations.
The Met Office’s forecast from October 17 to 19 indicates a continuation of cloudy weather with occasional drizzly showers and some brighter intervals. Moving into the long-range forecast from October 20 to 29, an unsettled pattern is expected with low-pressure systems bringing showers, rain, and intermittent strong winds. Towards the end of the period, a transition to a cooler, showery regime is likely with temperatures hovering around or slightly above average.
In addition, parts of the UK are gearing up for snowfall later in the month, with blizzards set to hit Scotland and England. Snowfall is expected to begin in the early hours of October 28, with the Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands likely to experience the heaviest snowfall rates. By October 29, the snowfall is predicted to ease slightly, with northern Scotland and parts of Newcastle seeing lighter falls. The rest of the UK is expected to stay dry but cold.
On October 30, another snowfall event is anticipated, especially across Scotland, while areas like London, Birmingham, Cardiff, and Plymouth are expected to remain cold but dry.
