Struggling households are being encouraged to verify their eligibility for financial assistance, such as vouchers and grants, in preparation for the upcoming Budget.
Lightning Reach, a platform with more than 2,500 partners, assists individuals in discovering and applying for support programs. On average, users of Lightning Reach receive around £750 in assistance. Since its launch in 2021, the website has linked over 200,000 people to over £20 million in financial aid, including grants from councils and charities.
Among the partners available on the Lightning Reach platform are the British Gas Energy Trust, TSB, and Lambeth Council. To check if you qualify for support, you can visit the Lightning Reach application portal.
Ren Yi Hooi, the Founder CEO of Lightning Reach, emphasized the importance of accessible support as the Budget is anticipated to introduce new tax hikes that could further strain household finances.
If you are concerned about keeping up with your expenses, it is advisable to reach out to your service provider promptly to explore potential assistance options. This may involve confirming if you are on the most cost-effective plan or discussing temporary payment relief.
Additionally, consider contacting your local council to inquire about eligibility for the Household Support Fund, which provides financial aid to low-income households. Some councils offer vouchers, while others provide direct cash assistance, depending on their policies.
For instance, the City of York Council has been distributing one-time £100 payments from the Household Support Fund this winter to assist residents struggling with bills. The payment is a non-repayable grant deposited directly into your bank account and is available to those receiving council tax support.
By taking advantage of available support systems and exploring various avenues for assistance, households facing financial challenges can alleviate some of the burdens brought on by the rising cost of living.
