Freely has quickly gained traction in the UK since its launch in 2024, reaching a significant milestone of over one million weekly users. This achievement, which occurred during the Christmas period, represents a substantial growth rate, with double the number of users compared to last September.

The platform has now become the fastest-growing TV service in the UK for 2025. Jonathan Thompson, CEO of Everyone TV, expressed excitement about surpassing the one million user mark, highlighting the demand for a convenient streaming option for live British TV and on-demand shows in one place.

Emphasizing the collaboration of UK public service broadcasters, Thompson stated that Freely’s rapid growth in 2025 showcases the accessibility of quality British TV content for viewers. Looking ahead to 2026, the platform aims to maintain momentum by prioritizing popular channels and stories in the streaming landscape.

While Freely still trails behind major players like Sky and Freeview, the trend towards streaming and away from expensive subscriptions could expedite its growth. Differentiating itself by operating solely through a broadband connection, Freely offers user-friendly features such as pausing live TV, personalized recommendations, and a comprehensive TV guide.

Initially compatible with a limited range of TVs, Freely has expanded its reach to include various models from popular brands like Hisense, Panasonic, Bush, and Sharp. Additionally, the availability of the Pleio streaming puck now allows Freely access on nearly any TV, with more set-top devices anticipated to launch soon, potentially increasing Freely’s market share further.
