An investment company that enlisted various sports stars to co-own the Alpine Formula 1 team is contemplating selling its share. Otro Capital, part of a group that acquired almost a quarter of the Enstone-based team in 2023, is reportedly considering offloading its stake.

Notable personalities such as actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who are also owners of Wrexham AFC, along with athletes like golfer Rory McIlroy and boxer Anthony Joshua, were part of this investment venture. Footballers Juan Mata and Trent Alexander-Arnold, as well as Super Bowl champions Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, were also involved.

Reports indicate that Otro Capital is in initial talks about divesting its interest in the Alpine team. The team’s value stood at around £685 million when the investment was made two years ago, reflecting the rising popularity of Formula 1 worldwide and the subsequent increase in team valuations.

Despite the star-studded investors, discussions about a potential sale are ongoing. If sold, Otro Capital stands to make a substantial profit from the £165 million investment made in 2023. However, talks regarding the sale are still in the early stages.

It is uncertain whether Reynolds, McElhenney, or RedBird Capital Partners, who are also part of the consortium, are considering selling. Alpine’s current position at the bottom of the constructors’ championship, with only 20 points this season, adds complexity to their ownership dynamics.

Alpine’s lackluster performance has been attributed to a strategic decision not to enhance their car this year but to focus on the 2026 season instead. They will also switch to Mercedes power units for the upcoming season, aiming to improve their competitiveness.

As for the driver lineup for the 2026 season, details are yet to be announced. Pierre Gasly has secured a contract extension, while Franco Colapinto’s future remains uncertain after a disappointing season. Speculations suggest he might stay with Alpine, with a potential announcement before the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Sky has reduced the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, offering savings of £192 and over 1,400 live matches across various leagues. Sky will broadcast a minimum of 215 live Premier League games next season, an increase from the previous season.
