Millions of Gmail users will soon have the option to change their email address to a completely new one. Google had previously hinted at this update, and it is now being rolled out globally. In an update on the Gmail blog page, Google has confirmed that users can switch their Google Account email ending in gmail.com to a new address also ending in gmail.com.
This change could be beneficial for users who want to update their username or have had changes in their circumstances. However, Google has noted an important point that this feature is gradually rolling out to all users, so it may not be available to everyone yet.
The new system will allow both the old and new email addresses to coexist, ensuring that emails sent to the current Gmail address will be automatically forwarded to the new one. Google assures users that their account data, including photos, messages, and emails associated with the original address, will remain unaffected.
To check if you are eligible to switch to a new Gmail address without losing your emails, follow these steps:
– Visit myaccount.google.com/google-account-email on your computer and sign in if required.
– Click on Personal info in the top-left corner.
– Choose Email, then Google Account email.
– Click on Change Google Account email under “Google Account email.”
– If the option is not available, it may not be accessible to you yet.
– Enter the new username you wish to use, ensuring it is not in use or previously used and deleted.
– Click on Change email, then confirm by selecting Yes, change email.
– Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
After completion, your new Gmail address will become the primary account email, while the old address will be kept as an alternate email.
