Google has announced that it will discontinue Chrome support for older versions of Apple’s macOS on MacBook devices. Although Chrome will remain functional on MacBooks and iMacs, users will no longer receive updates or security patches, potentially exposing them to security risks.

The change will impact users of Macs running macOS 12 (Monterey) or earlier. Those on unsupported platforms will need to upgrade to a newer operating system like macOS Ventura to continue receiving browser support. Some older Mac models, such as iMacs predating 2017 and MacBook Airs purchased before 2018, may not be compatible with Ventura, requiring affected users to consider purchasing a new device for secure Chrome usage.

The update is scheduled to take effect starting in July of this year. Google confirmed that Chrome version 150 is the final release supporting macOS 12 (Monterey), with version 151, expected to launch on July 28, 2026, requiring macOS 13 Ventura or later. Users are advised to ensure their devices are running macOS 13 or later to receive future Chrome updates.

While older Chrome versions will continue to function, no further updates will be available for users on macOS 12. Google recommends transitioning to a supported macOS version, macOS 13 Ventura or newer, to ensure ongoing access to the latest security updates and Chrome features.
