Police are investigating a tragic incident where a pedestrian was fatally struck by a council road sweeper. Following the collision that occurred just before 2:15 pm yesterday, a 63-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released pending further investigation.

The victim, a man in his 80s, was quickly taken to the hospital, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead a few hours later. The East Midlands Ambulance Service alerted Leicester Police after the incident in Holy Bones, Leicester.

Authorities from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are diligently working to determine the sequence of events leading to the tragedy. They are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or possesses relevant information to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Detective Sergeant Mike Steer expressed the need to understand the circumstances surrounding the collision following the unfortunate death of the man. The vehicle involved was identified as a Leicester City Council road sweeper, and cooperation with the council is ongoing to aid in the investigation.

This incident follows the heartbreaking loss of a four-year-old boy, Zaahir Jan Feizi, who was fatally struck by a bus while crossing near the A&E entrance on August 7. The boy’s mother, Azaria Green, is seeking to raise funds to purchase their rented home to have Zaahir buried in their garden for personal solace and closure.
