Formula 1 veteran Andrea de Adamich has passed away at 84 years old. De Adamich, who competed for McLaren and Ferrari during his career, participated in 34 World Championship Grand Prix races.

His F1 journey met a tragic halt in 1973 during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone when he was involved in a severe 10-car crash, resulting in injuries to his ankle and legs.

Post-retirement, De Adamich transitioned into broadcasting and became a prominent TV personality, hosting the show Grand Prix on Italia 1 from 1978 to 2012. He was honored with the title of Commendatore of the Order of Merit in 2022, a prestigious recognition in Italy.

Born in Trieste, De Adamich began his successful racing career by winning the Italian Formula 3 title in 1965. His achievements extended to winning the European Touring Car Championship in 1966 and 1967 with Alfa Romeo before moving on to Ferrari in 1968.

Throughout his career, he competed for teams like March, Surtees, and Brabham, excelling in endurance races alongside notable figures. De Adamich secured victories in events like the 200 Miles of Buenos Aires in 1970 and several prestigious races in 1971 and 1974.

Apart from his racing accomplishments, he also ventured into Le Mans racing and garnered significant acclaim for his work in television. Tributes have poured in following his demise, highlighting his professionalism and passion for the sport.
