EE customers are being warned about a resurgence of a text message scam that aims to deceive them into claiming non-existent “EE reward points” before they expire. The fraudulent messages prompt recipients to click on a link leading to a fake EE website designed to steal personal information and money. Reports indicate a rise in such incidents this month, prompting heightened alertness among users.

Several EE customers have shared their experiences on online forums to caution others. One user recounted receiving a text regarding rewards and unknowingly accessing a realistic-looking EE site, advising vigilance. Another admitted falling for the scam momentarily by clicking a link and providing personal details before realizing the ruse.

According to cybersecurity firm Phonely, there has been an increase in reports on its scam-tracking platform, with scammers sending messages from random numbers pretending to be EE. Phonely advises mobile users to be wary of unexpected messages related to rewards, prizes, or expiring benefits.

Bryn Thompson, Phonely’s Marketing Director, highlighted the deceptive nature of these texts, emphasizing the importance of avoiding clicking on links in unsolicited messages. EE has clarified that it does not operate a points or rewards program and has shared details of the scam message to help customers identify it, urging recipients to ignore such messages and refrain from clicking on any links.

The fraudulent text falsely claims to offer points to high-quality users that will expire soon, urging them to click a link for redeeming prizes. EE reiterated that the message is not genuine and cautioned against engaging with unknown links in text messages, advising against sharing personal or financial information.

In conclusion, if EE customers receive messages about reward points, it is crucial to refrain from clicking on any links or disclosing personal information to safeguard against falling victim to scams.
