Virgin Media has announced an upcoming upgrade for certain broadband customers, aiming to enhance their home router experience. The company revealed plans to transition users from older Hub 3 and Hub 4 devices to the newer Hub 5, equipped with advanced Wi-Fi 6 technology for improved speed and reliability.
Eligible customers will be notified via email in the following weeks and months as the upgrade is gradually implemented throughout 2026. The Hub 5 boasts Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas, promising stronger and more consistent coverage within households. Virgin Media assured that selected users would benefit from this transition.
To determine your router model, you can check the sticker on the back or bottom of your device or access the information through the Virgin Media Connect app. Upgrading to the Hub 5 router is expected to enhance broadband performance significantly, offering wider Wi-Fi coverage, better stability, and support for future updates. Moreover, the Hub 5 is tailored to handle faster Gig1 speeds, enabling quicker downloads and streaming experiences. Gig1 speeds can download a full HD movie in under 40 seconds, surpassing the UK average by over 10 times.
Wi-Fi 6 represents the latest wireless networking technology, delivering faster speeds, improved efficiency, and better performance in crowded environments. It can accommodate numerous connected devices simultaneously, offering enhanced performance across both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Additionally, Wi-Fi 6 is energy-efficient, making it ideal for modern smart homes with high data demands. While Wi-Fi 7 technology is available, Wi-Fi 6 remains optimal for the average user’s needs.
