A TV series is in the works to depict the life of former football star Paul Gascoigne, with actors currently being sought to portray his family members. The show will showcase Gascoigne’s remarkable journey from a modest upbringing in Gateshead to the pinnacle of his fame during the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

Gascoigne, commonly known as Gazza, has shared that the series will not shy away from portraying his struggles with addiction and stints in treatment centers both in the UK and abroad. Auditions are underway for actors to take on key roles, including his siblings Carl, Lindsay, and Anna.

The 58-year-old Gazza recounted a poignant moment during his battle with alcoholism when he felt he had “died” before receiving a life-saving injection during rehab in Arizona in 2013. He expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming series, titled “Gazza: The Life Story,” which will delve into his formative years, highlighting the unwavering support of his family, especially his mother Carol.

The show will trace Gascoigne’s journey from his school days, emphasizing the pivotal role his parents played in nurturing his passion for football. In his recent book ‘Eight,’ Gascoigne reminisces about his emotional return to Heathfield School in 1990, following his memorable tears during England’s World Cup defeat to Germany in Italy.

Discussions are currently ongoing with various television networks to secure a broadcasting deal for the anticipated drama. The 2022 documentary ‘Gazza,’ which aired on BBC2, was honored with the ‘Best Documentary Series’ accolade at the 2023 Royal TV Society Awards.

For those interested, Gascoigne’s book ‘Eight,’ published by Reach Sport, is set to be released on October 23rd and is available for pre-order on Amazon.
