Allegations have surfaced against two Albanian siblings, accusing them of orchestrating a drug empire worth £335 million, which allegedly originated from a car wash establishment in Bournemouth. Klevis Hoxhosmani, aged 37, and his brother, Artur Hoxhosmani, aged 42, are purportedly linked to a major drug-smuggling network in Europe. Prosecutors claim that the brothers engaged in trafficking cocaine to sustain a luxurious lifestyle, splurging on items like yachts, luxury cars, and high-end properties.
The duo, along with 16 reported associates, allegedly used various methods to conceal and transport the illicit substances across European borders. The criminal organization supposedly utilized legitimate businesses, including trucking companies, to move the contraband through ports and overland routes. Additionally, they reportedly employed the Hawala money transfer system to evade detection, a tactic that was eventually uncovered by Albanian authorities in 2022.
Despite their opulent lifestyle and extensive property holdings, the siblings are now facing legal scrutiny from Albania’s Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK). The investigation has led to the seizure of assets, including a yacht, luxury vehicles, firearms, watches, mobile phones, and bank cards linked to the alleged criminal activities. Prosecutors in Albania have linked the siblings to a significant cocaine seizure in France, implicating them in a pan-European drug trafficking operation.
The accused brothers are currently in custody awaiting trial after appearing in court in Tirana. Investigations suggest that the duo established themselves in Bournemouth years ago, with Klevis listed as the director of a local car wash business. Authorities suspect that the pair had connections with corrupt port officials to facilitate the transport of narcotics from South America to the UK via European ports.
Law enforcement agencies, including the UK’s National Crime Agency, are collaborating with Albanian counterparts in a coordinated effort to dismantle the drug network. Albanian prosecutors have emphasized the importance of international cooperation in combating transnational crime, highlighting the significance of the joint investigative efforts in bringing the alleged drug empire to light.
