Virgin Media O2 users are being cautioned about a fraudulent email scam circulating in the UK. The email, falsely claiming to be from the company, insists on a SIM card upgrade due to the closure of O2’s 3G mobile platform. Although most users won’t be impacted by the 3G phase-out, scammers are taking advantage of the situation.

The deceptive email, appearing legitimate with official branding, prompts users to switch to a new 5G SIM for a supposed faster and stronger network. Virgin Media O2 emphasizes that these emails are not genuine and should be disregarded. Recipients are advised not to click on any links, respond, or engage with the email but to delete it promptly. Any received fraudulent emails should be reported by forwarding them to phishing@virginmediao2.co.uk.

This phishing scam aims to deceive individuals into disclosing sensitive personal information. In some cases, scammers may even deliver a fake SIM card and request recipients to activate it using a provided PIN. The email further instructs users to log in to the O2 app with a given password and includes a “Contact Us” button that could connect victims to fraudsters directly.

If successful, scammers could obtain access to personal accounts or gather enough data to compromise other online accounts, potentially leading to identity theft and financial losses. To avoid falling victim to such scams, it is recommended to ignore suspicious emails from service providers and verify their authenticity by contacting the company through official channels or seeking advice from a trusted source before taking any action.
