Russia launched a devastating assault on Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of at least six people, including two children. The brutal strikes severely damaged the country’s heating and power infrastructure, causing suffering to civilians as winter approached.
In the capital city of Kyiv and its surrounding area, a tragic toll of five lives was reported, including a six-month-old baby and a 12-year-old girl. Additionally, a 38-year-old woman lost her life during a Russian attack on the village of Pohreby in the Kyiv region, with several others injured in various locations across the country.
In response to the escalating conflict, NATO deployed two F-16 warplanes from Romania and two German Eurofighter Typhoon fighter aircraft to bolster air defense efforts. The Romanian defense ministry strongly condemned Russia’s actions, highlighting the threat they pose to regional security and stability in the Black Sea region.
The nighttime assaults led to emergency power cuts in multiple cities and regions, following targeted strikes on thermal and hydro power plants using advanced weaponry. These attacks were perceived as retaliatory actions by Russian President Vladimir Putin for Ukraine’s prior use of British-supplied missiles on a key Russian chemical plant.
As tensions escalated, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for international support and advocated for a unified response to the aggression. He emphasized the urgent need for long-range missile capabilities to effectively defend against Russian incursions and bring an end to the ongoing conflict.
The destructive impact of the attacks extended to critical energy facilities in several regions, causing disruptions to power supply and fuel shortages. Amidst the chaos, Zelensky urged swift and decisive sanctions from the European Union, the United States, and other allies to deter further hostilities and restore peace to the region.
