In a surprising turn of events, a newborn baby girl, still connected to her umbilical cord, was discovered abandoned on the steps of a bustling train station during Monday morning’s rush hour. The incident took place at the 34th Street–Penn Station stop in New York City, where the infant was found around 9:30 a.m. at the base of the subway stairs leading to the southbound 1, 2, and 3 trains.

Upon the baby’s discovery, emergency services were contacted promptly, leading to a quick response from rescue teams. The infant, who was conscious and alert, was swiftly taken to Bellevue Hospital and reported to be in stable condition by authorities.

Authorities are currently examining surveillance footage in the area to identify the individual responsible for abandoning the child. As of Monday afternoon, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

New York City Transit President, Demetrius Crichlow, dubbed the incident as the ‘Miracle on 34th Street,’ commending the efforts of the emergency responders in managing the situation effectively.

This incident follows a similar case where a newborn baby girl was found abandoned in a cardboard box by a passer-by on a roadside. The discovery, made at 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24, revealed that the infant, believed to be only a few hours old, was in good health and subsequently taken to the hospital for assessment.

The baby, estimated to be less than a day old based on her severed umbilical cord, was located in Tuguegarao City in the Philippines, as confirmed by the Philippine National Police (PNP). Social worker May Asuncion stated that the baby remains stable but will be monitored at the hospital for up to five days to ensure her ongoing well-being.

Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the swift actions of local citizens and authorities in responding to the situation. He emphasized the importance of valuing every life and vowed to exhaust efforts in identifying the individual responsible for abandoning the child, as per the official statement from the PNP.
