As a migrant care worker, my role involves providing compassionate care to your elderly loved ones. I offer support during times of fear, hold trembling hands, and bring comfort during the quiet moments of the night. My dedication extends to helping them regain their independence and humanity through simple acts of kindness that often bring a smile to their faces.

Arriving in the UK as an asylum seeker seeking safety and a fresh start, I found purpose in caring for others. Despite the respect and gratitude I receive from the families I assist, I sometimes feel unseen as an individual who gives tirelessly each day.

Working long hours to ensure the well-being of others, I contribute to society through my efforts and contributions. The essential role migrant care workers like myself play in sustaining care homes and hospitals is often overlooked, yet without us, the entire system would face significant challenges impacting millions of lives.

The recent proposal to delay the eligibility for Indefinite Leave to Remain for migrant workers like me to 15 years evokes a sense of disappointment and frustration. Despite dedicating years of service, loyalty, and hard work, being told to wait further for acceptance feels disheartening.

We, as migrant care workers, seek fairness and humanity, not special treatment or accolades. Our desire is for recognition, stability, and the opportunity to build a future without enduring prolonged periods of uncertainty and waiting.

Our intention is not to take from the country but to contribute and support those in need. We hope that one day the UK, the country we serve with dedication, will reciprocate that care and consideration towards us.
