Top executives at the BBC are reportedly urging popular duo Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones to be transparent about their relationship for the benefit of their audience.

With over 1.5 million viewers tuning in to Morning Live on BBC One every weekday, fans have been following the dynamics between Helen and Gethin. While it was initially believed that the two had started a romantic relationship while working together on the show, rumors of a breakup circulated a few months ago.

However, recent photos of Gethin, 47, wrapping his arm around Helen, 42, at the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain event in London have reignited speculations about their romance. This display of affection has caused some discontent among BBC management.

A BBC insider expressed that there is a growing sentiment among executives that Helen and Gethin should clarify the status of their relationship and put an end to the ambiguity for viewers. The executives feel that the couple’s actions, especially appearing together on the red carpet, are leading to unnecessary confusion among fans who are eager for clarity.

Gethin, an original host of Morning Live since its inception five years ago, was later joined by Helen in 2023. Helen, a former Blue Peter presenter, took on the role following her split from retired rugby player Richie Myler. Speculation about Gethin and Helen’s friendship evolving into something more surfaced in May after they were seen leaving the BAFTAs together and spending time off-set.

Despite the ongoing rumors, neither Gethin nor Helen has confirmed or denied their relationship status. The BBC had hoped that the pair’s on-screen chemistry would drive the show’s success, much like the impact Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan had on ITV’s This Morning in 1998.

While the BBC sought to replicate this winning formula with Helen and Gethin, questions linger about whether their rapport extends beyond the cameras.
