Following the recent passing of his wife due to cancer, a saddened businessman was found deceased in his residence, prompting a police investigation into a potential homicide.

Authorities responded to a disturbance call at a property in Matley Gardens, Totton, on October 16. Nigel Key, aged 51, was discovered with severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical responders.

Hampshire Police revealed that another individual, a 31-year-old man, was also found with serious injuries at the location and has been arrested on suspicion of murder. This tragic incident occurred shortly after the death of Mr. Key’s wife, Sheila, who succumbed to cancer just two months after her diagnosis on October 2. The couple operated a construction consultancy business together.

Mr. Key had previously shared on social media about his wife’s passing, expressing the immense void her loss had left in their lives and in the world. He described Sheila as an exceptional wife, mother, and grandmother, acknowledging her courageous battle with cancer before her untimely demise.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Police provided details of the incident, stating that they received a distress call reporting a serious assault at an address in Matley Gardens. The deceased, a 51-year-old resident of Totton, was identified as Mr. Key, and his family has been informed and is receiving support from specialized officers. The 31-year-old suspect, also from Totton, is under arrest for murder and is currently undergoing medical assessment before being placed in custody as the investigation continues.
