A man from the UK is potentially facing a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of the drug-induced killing of another man he had met for a weekend rendezvous. Aaron Rainbow, a helicopter pilot originally from Surrey, was found guilty by a jury of violently and deliberately murdering Oscar Tornero by stabbing him multiple times in various areas of his body following a drug binge involving crystal meth and GHB.

Prior to the commencement of his trial, Rainbow had asserted that he acted in self-defense, citing a state of confusion and paranoia induced by the chemsex drugs consumed at his victim’s residence in Vallgorguina, located 30 minutes north of the Catalan capital. During his trial testimony, Rainbow expressed a lack of responsibility for the incident, claiming he felt threatened and believed he was being recorded and potentially targeted by strangers.

Witnesses detailed how Rainbow, in a state of distress, armed himself with a knife for protection and locked himself inside the house. Despite his inability to recall the exact number of stabbings, Rainbow insisted that he perceived a grave danger and acted on instinct.

Oscar, who worked in a fashion store and also as an escort, was seen by a neighbor fleeing his home severely injured following the attack on October 17, 2023. The neighbor promptly alerted authorities upon hearing Rainbow’s threatening remarks. Testimony was also provided by an individual who had engaged in drug-fueled activities with Rainbow in London days before the fatal encounter, recounting a similar violent episode.

Rainbow, now facing a potential 20-year prison term following the jury’s decision, had his defense team argue for his acquittal based on claims of temporary insanity, drug influence, and overwhelming fear at the time of the incident. Despite assertions of mishandled investigation by Spanish authorities, Rainbow’s family maintains his innocence, likening the case to a suspenseful drama.

The trial concluded with Rainbow being found guilty by an 8-1 majority. Subsequent sentencing in Spain will be communicated in writing to legal representatives, considering Rainbow’s two-year detention since his arrest.
