Players of Rainbow Six Siege encountered difficulties accessing the game during the Christmas period due to a cyber attack on Ubisoft’s servers. The attack led to an unusual issuance of in-game credits, raising concerns about a breach in the company’s network. Reports also surfaced of unauthorized bans on players and hackers manipulating the ban feed with messages of their choice.
Ubisoft acknowledged the issue through a statement on X, stating they were actively working on a solution. Subsequently, the matchmaking system and marketplace were temporarily disabled to address the situation. Transactions made during the breach, even legitimate ones, were set to be reversed to maintain fairness.
After a brief shutdown on December 27, Ubisoft reopened the server queues on December 29, with a caution about potential connection queues due to service adjustments. Currently, the Rainbow Six Siege service status page indicates ongoing connectivity issues, with authentication and the in-game store experiencing complete outages.
The cause of the breach and any potential data loss are yet to be officially confirmed by Ubisoft. Players are advised to stay updated on the situation as Ubisoft continues to manage and resolve the aftermath of the cyber attack.
