A small-scale trainer, handling just two horses, achieved a significant victory alongside his jockey brother as Oscars Brother triumphed in the Boodles Florida Pearl Novice Chase at Punchestown. Despite facing competition from prominent stables like Gordon Elliott and Henry de Bromhead, as well as the presence of Rocky’s Diamond, who finished fourth in the 2025 Stayers’ Hurdle, Connor King outperformed them all with Oscars Brother. The seven-year-old horse, guided by Connor’s brother Daniel, led from the front throughout the race, displaying impressive jumping skills and ultimately crossing the finish line three lengths ahead of Koktail Divin from De Bromhead’s yard.
Before the three-mile race at Punchestown, Oscars Brother had prepared on soft to heavy ground in a novice chase at Galway. Now, the duo harbors hopes of nurturing a Grade One caliber horse at their modest yard, where only one other racehorse is currently in training. Daniel expressed his delight at securing a significant win for his brother, praising Oscars Brother’s qualities and the competitive nature of the race. Looking ahead, Connor, a former jockey, mentioned the possibility of targeting the Grade One Faugheen Novices’ Chase at Limerick during the Christmas period, highlighting Oscars Brother’s transition from hurdles to chasing as a key focus for their future plans.
The brothers’ success story showcases the potential for further achievements in the racing world, with Oscars Brother proving to be a promising contender under their guidance.
