Thousands gathered in Minneapolis last evening for a candlelight vigil to mourn the tragic deaths of two children, aged eight and ten, following a shooting at a Catholic school in the city the previous day.

The suspect, 23-year-old Robin Westman, who also died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, was identified in the horrific incident. Authorities are currently investigating a digital trail left by Westman before the shooting, including a deleted YouTube video expressing a desire to harm Donald Trump.

Of the 17 individuals injured during the incident at Annunciation Church, 14 were children and three were elderly adults in their 80s. Mayor Jacob Frey commended the quick actions of the heroic church staff, who shielded children under pews to protect them from the gunfire, preventing a potentially more catastrophic outcome.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated that the incident was being treated as an act of domestic terrorism and a hate crime targeting Catholics.

Minneapolis Police are still working to determine the motive behind the shooting. Chief Officer Brian O’Hara mentioned that multiple search warrants were executed, revealing numerous pieces of evidence that are currently under investigation, including additional writings and electronic devices belonging to the shooter.

Mayor Frey emphasized the urgent need for gun violence reform in the wake of the tragic event, calling for concrete actions rather than just thoughts and prayers. Governor Tim Walz spoke with Donald Trump, leading to flags being flown at half-staff as a tribute to the victims.

The community mourned the loss and prayed for the wounded during a vigil at Lynnhurst Park, reflecting on the bravery of those who shielded children during the harrowing attack at the school.

Authorities are examining video materials and writings shared by the shooter, emphasizing the disturbing nature of the content. The tragic incident has sparked calls for increased vigilance and safety measures at schools and places of worship in the area.

In the aftermath of the shooting, the community has come together to support the affected families and honor the memory of the victims, as they seek to heal from the senseless act of violence.
