John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Expressing his enthusiasm, Tory stated that he looks forward to collaborating with TIFF’s leadership, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to influence its future direction.

Tory’s tenure as chair officially commences on October 1, as per a recent announcement. The festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20 this year. He takes over from Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position since 2021. In his departing remarks, Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, expressing enduring pride in his contributions to the festival’s evolution.

Moreover, TIFF disclosed the addition of three new members to its board of directors – Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Concurrently, Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, is stepping down. TIFF conveyed its gratitude to Daniere for her dedicated service and valuable contributions to the organization.
