A 25-year-old man, Max Vardy, who was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor, decided to halt his treatment and marry his partner. Initially attributing numbness in his right leg to a minor knee injury, Max later experienced severe headaches, which he attributed to work stress. After unusual visual disturbances, a CT scan revealed a brain lesion, leading to a diagnosis of a grade 4 glioblastoma.
Given a prognosis of 12 to 18 months to live, Max underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Unfortunately, his condition worsened, affecting his ability to speak clearly. Max, a sustainability consultant from Farnham, Surrey, expressed disbelief at his diagnosis, having dismissed his symptoms as unrelated issues.
Max chose to discontinue medical care and tied the knot with his partner, Georgie English, on August 20, 2025. Georgie, who paused her job at a quantitative hedge fund to care for Max, emphasized the importance of fulfilling Max’s wish to see her in a wedding dress before his health deteriorated further.
The couple, surrounded by close family and friends, held a private wedding ceremony, showcasing the overwhelming support and love from their community during such a challenging time. Max highlighted the significance of spending quality time with loved ones and cherishing the remaining moments with clarity and dignity.
Opting to forego additional intensive treatment due to the tumor’s progression, Max prioritized creating lasting memories with Georgie and his family. Reflecting on their relationship and shared dreams, Max expressed gratitude for marrying his best friend and partner.
