The Vancouver Rise have received reinforcements with the recent addition of two defenders. This move comes ahead of a crucial match against the Halifax Tides. Chantelle Swaby, previously with Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, formerly of NSL side AFC Toronto, have joined the Rise.
Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller expressed confidence in the new signings, highlighting Swaby’s physical prowess and confidence on the field, as well as Hansen’s eagerness to contribute and adapt to the team’s style of play.
Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues around the world, which has honed her ability to remain composed in pressure situations and provide leadership on the field.
For Hansen, 26, joining the Rise marks a return home to Burnaby, B.C., which she describes as a special moment to play in front of family and friends again. These signings follow the departure of Mariah Lee, who retired last month to pursue a career in law.
Additionally, Vancouver bid farewell to goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan, who was loaned to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season. With the team striving for a playoff spot, currently trailing Halifax by five points, the upcoming matches are crucial for their postseason aspirations.
