“Charges Laid in Cattle Branding Fraud Case”

RCMP has pressed charges against a 52-year-old individual following an inquiry into suspected fraudulent branding of cattle. Branding is a common method used to establish ownership of livestock. Livestock Services of Saskatchewan was tipped off on July 6 regarding tampered cattle brands at a farm in the rural municipality of Martin, situated approximately 225 kilometers east of Regina, as per a news release issued by the RCMP on Wednesday. Owen Third, the livestock investigator for Saskatchewan RCMP, collaborated with Moosomin RCMP officers and Livestock Services of Saskatchewan to examine 197 cattle at the farm. Upon inspection, it was found that 99 of the cattle had altered brands placed over the original ones, while the remaining animals had been falsely branded with a new mark. The accused individual faces charges of altering cattle brands and committing fraud over $5,000. The first court appearance for the accused is scheduled for the upcoming month.
