During the change-over day on Wednesday, a new group of athletes arrived in the city, and sports activities are set to resume in the evening. Duane Huxter, who has been at the Corner Brook Civic Centre for over a week, was busy organizing merchandise for the athletes, primarily focusing on folding t-shirts.
Volunteers play a crucial role in various aspects of the Games, from collaborating with local authorities to manage logistics to overseeing venue operations for a seamless experience. Dave Campbell, the games director at SportNL and a member of the Games host committee, emphasized the importance of community connections and volunteer support for the event’s success.
Coordinating apparel for 10 teams is a significant task, but Huxter recognizes the impact it has on creating lasting memories for the athletes. Despite playing a smaller role in events like the opening ceremonies, he finds fulfillment in contributing to the athletes’ positive experiences.
Huxter expressed his dedication, mentioning the satisfaction of seeing athletes proudly representing their regions in the attire he helped prepare. The volunteers’ collective effort aims to ensure that the athletes have a memorable and enjoyable time at the Games.
