“Russian Drone Strikes on Kyiv Persist, Inflict Injuries”

Date:

Russian drone strikes in and around Kyiv continued for the fifth consecutive day on Monday, with constant air raid sirens disrupting the lives of millions. The attacks on Monday led to injuries for four individuals and caused damage to warehouses, an apartment building, and a retail store in the Kyiv region, as reported by regional Governor Tymur Tkachenko via Telegram.

Over the past few days, Kyiv and its neighboring areas have been under siege by swarms of drones, many of which are powered by jet engines. These attacks have resulted in casualties, destruction of homes, and warehouses. A particularly devastating strike on Friday targeted an ammunition depot, triggering explosions that claimed the lives of 38 people.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed that the relentless drone assaults are intended to exhaust the Ukrainian population. He disclosed that Russia had launched close to 1,500 drones at Ukraine within four days, with over half of them being jet-powered.

In another incident, a Russian attack caused a fire at a terminal managed by the private courier service Nova Poshta in the southern Odesa region, as confirmed by Governor Oleh Kiper on Monday. Furthermore, in the city of Kryvyi Rih in the southeast, an industrial facility was targeted by a jet-powered drone, resulting in injuries to two individuals, according to a local official.

Both Ukraine and Russia have escalated their attacks on economic targets recently, focusing on major e-commerce entities and retailers. Russia has been targeting warehouses belonging to leading supermarket chains, postal services, and home goods stores in Ukraine. In retaliation, Ukraine has also struck Russian infrastructure, including a logistics hub in Yekaterinburg, which was hit by a drone attack, as reported by the local governor on Monday.

Russia has ramped up its air assaults during the summer, taking advantage of Ukraine’s limited interceptors capable of downing ballistic missiles. The increased daytime drone attacks have disrupted life in Kyiv, causing interruptions in the metro service and disrupting daily routines.

Passengers in Kyiv found themselves waiting on crowded platforms as train services were halted due to the alerts, including 38-year-old nurse and psychologist Yulianna Oliynyk, who was stranded with her two sons while trying to reach a school ahead of the academic year. The ongoing air raid alerts have left many residents stranded and disrupted their daily activities.

Oliynyk shared her experience, revealing that the alerts had forced her family to spend the previous night with relatives and contemplating the idea of sleeping in the metro due to the uncertainties caused by the ongoing attacks.
