A married couple set up a contactless payment device at a bar during their wedding to gather funds for their desired honeymoon trip. Chris Martin and Tasha White hosted the first tap-and-pay wedding reception in the UK, where their 140 guests could directly transfer contributions to their bank account using a QR code provided by Lopay, a cost-effective card-processing company. The humorous sign accompanying the QR code playfully urged guests to contribute for the couple’s flight expenses.

The couple, in a relationship for 14 years, jetted off to Mexico for their honeymoon the day after their wedding, funded by the innovative collection method they implemented. Chris, aged 35 and employed by Mercedes, expressed gratitude for the generosity of their guests without disclosing the total amount collected. He mentioned that guests enthusiastically participated, some even making multiple contributions, emphasizing their preference for experiences over material gifts.

Given the decline in cash usage, the couple found it practical and entertaining to utilize Lopay’s card reader for their honeymoon fundraising initiative. This decision proved fruitful as guests became more generous as the celebration progressed with drinks flowing freely. The couple, Chris and Tasha, parents to a seven-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son, celebrated their special day at Furtho Manor Farm in Milton Keynes, where attendees praised the convenience of the card reader and QR code for gifting.

Richard Carter, the 42-year-old founder of Lopay, expressed satisfaction in facilitating a successful wedding day for Chris and Tasha. The seamless process of using the card reader and QR code simplified gift-giving for guests, eliminating the hassle associated with traditional presents. Carter envisioned this modern approach catching on at various wedding venues nationwide, enhancing the gifting experience for couples and guests alike.

Lopay, known as the UK’s most economical and top-rated payment application, currently offers no fees on initial transactions up to £2000, with payment processing commencing at 0.79%—half the cost compared to competitors like SumUp, Zettle, and Square. The absence of a binding contract and the option to reduce the 0.79% rate to 0% through the complimentary Expense and Reward Card make Lopay an attractive choice for users seeking affordable and efficient payment solutions.
