Heather’s boyfriend, Christopher Halliwell, often worked late on Fridays. One March night in 2011, he texted Heather at 1:30 am expressing his love before she went to bed. What Heather didn’t know at the time was that just an hour after that message, Halliwell abducted and killed 22-year-old Sian O’Callaghan, who had taken a taxi from a nightclub in Swindon.
Sian’s body was discovered in Uffington, Oxfordshire, five days later, showing signs of strangulation. Shockingly, this wasn’t Halliwell’s first murder. In 2003, he had also kidnapped and killed Becky Godden, a 20-year-old prostitute who had gone missing from Swindon.
The morning after Sian’s murder, Halliwell got up early to clean his taxi at a car wash, as recalled by his ex-girlfriend, Heather. Later that day, Heather found him in a good mood, laughing and joking, unaware that he had spent the morning removing traces of Sian’s blood from his car seats.
Heather and Halliwell had been in a happy and loving relationship since meeting in 2003 and moving in together in Swindon two years later. However, Halliwell’s dark secret was revealed when he confessed to Sian’s murder and led the police to her body, located near the Uffington White Horse.
In a shocking turn of events, Halliwell admitted to also murdering Becky Godden eight years earlier, leading authorities to find her remains in Eastleach, Gloucestershire. Heather expressed disbelief, questioning if she truly knew the man she had been with for years.
Halliwell was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 25 years for Sian O’Callaghan’s murder in October 2012. In September 2016, he received a whole life sentence for Becky Godden-Edwards’ murder. Heather, feeling no sympathy towards him, labeled him a cold and callous coward, stating that forgiveness was out of the question.
