NATO fighter jets have been dispatched for the second consecutive day in response to another encounter with Russian aircraft. Poland’s armed forces operational command, together with allied forces, scrambled fighters after a significant assault on Ukraine approached EU borders. This is not the first time Poland has had to launch fighters due to Russian actions during the conflict in Ukraine, marking the second instance in just two days that NATO has had to mobilize jets.

In addition to deploying jets, Poland activated its ground-based air defense systems to the highest alert level possible. The command stated that Polish and allied aircraft are currently operating in the airspace, with air defense and radar systems on heightened readiness.

The operation concluded after Russian airstrikes on Ukraine ceased, shortly after 5 am BST. The command emphasized that their actions were preemptive and focused on securing airspace near the targeted region that was hit with over 600 drones and missiles during the overnight attack on Ukraine.
