Russia’s breach of NATO countries’ airspace is viewed as a significant escalation, according to David Lammy. He cautioned Vladimir Putin that the alliance is prepared to protect its territory. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed confidence that NATO members can confront the Russian leader, emphasizing a strong collective effort.

In response to a recent Russian drone intrusion in Poland, RAF Typhoons, accompanied by an RAF Voyager aircraft, conducted their inaugural NATO air defense operation over Poland. Lammy defended NATO’s actions, highlighting the deployment of aircraft to support missions on the eastern flank and close coordination with Poland and Estonia.

UK fighter jets carried out their first NATO policing mission over Poland following Russian airspace violations, patrolling the area where 19 drones were downed earlier. The mission, named “Eastern Sentry,” aimed to safeguard the airspace near Belarusian and Russian territories without any notable incidents reported.

The UK jets’ deployment occurred after Russian drones breached Polish airspace, prompting concerns of potential conflict. Estonia also reported unauthorized entry by three Russian jets, further raising tensions. Defence Secretary John Healey commended the RAF personnel for standing in solidarity with Poland and defending shared security.

Over 400 UK personnel are set to support NATO patrolling activities in eastern Europe. Air Chief Marshal Harv Smyth highlighted the robust partnership with NATO, emphasizing readiness to project airpower effectively. The UK’s commitment to safeguarding NATO airspace remains steadfast amidst escalating regional tensions.
