A groundbreaking aircraft set to transform travel has received a significant boost. The Airlander 10, slated for commercial operations in 2029, will be the world’s largest aircraft at 92 meters in length and a price tag of £60 million per unit. This innovative aircraft, described by George Land, the sales director of Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV), as exceptionally eco-friendly, is poised to redefine the travel experience.
Hybrid Air Vehicles, the company behind the Airlander 10, recently announced a partnership with UK-American firm ZeroAvia to equip the aircraft with hydrogen-electric engines. This technological advancement will drastically reduce emissions, potentially to just 1 or 2% of those produced by conventional kerosene-powered commercial planes.
Initially nicknamed ‘the flying bum’ because of its distinctive shape, the Airlander 10 is undergoing modifications to enhance its design. With plans to commence production in Doncaster within the next 12 to 18 months, Hybrid Air Vehicles aims to roll out as many as two dozen aircraft annually from 2030.
The future Airlander 10 promises a luxurious and serene flying experience, departing from the cramped and noisy environment typical of commercial jets. Boasting a maximum altitude of 3,000 meters and a top speed of 80 mph, this airship offers a tranquil journey with the potential for breathtaking views and unique travel experiences.
The Airlander 10’s impressive capabilities include the ability to fly continuously for five days, covering a range of 4,000 miles.
