A prominent chain of pharmacies on the high street has stepped in to rescue 60 branches of a competing company facing financial collapse. Allied Pharmacies has assumed control of the management of these 60 Jhoots Pharmacies locations, most of which are currently closed. However, Allied has reassured the public of its commitment to restoring essential pharmacy services at these sites.

Following this acquisition, Allied will expand its presence to approximately 210 branches in England and Wales, as reported by C+D. Emphasizing the critical role of community pharmacies in public health, Allied expressed understanding of the disruption caused by the closures, particularly affecting vulnerable groups reliant on local healthcare services.

Members of Parliament were briefed about Jhoots Pharmacies’ potential closures, raising concerns about communities losing access to vital health services. Allegations surfaced that staff were facing financial difficulties due to payment delays. The ownership of these pharmacies is divided between Manjit and Sarbjit Jhooty, with reports indicating around 150 Jhoots Pharmacies in the UK.

Manjit Jhooty, through his companies Pasab and Jhoots Healthcare, owns over 20 Jhoots branches and denied any operational issues. On the other hand, Sarbjit Jhooty, reportedly owning the remaining 129 branches, acknowledged workforce challenges and assured efforts to address them. No comments have been provided by Jhoots to date.
