Asda is gearing up to launch approximately 20 new convenience stores later this year.
The debut of the initial Asda Express outlet is scheduled for early October in Castleford, with subsequent openings in various locations following later that month. Asda Express stores will offer a wide range of up to 3,000 branded and own-label products, including essential items like milk and bread.
These upcoming stores will be strategically situated in urban areas, residential neighborhoods, and transportation hubs. This expansion initiative comes after Asda’s successful acquisition of 469 convenience store and fuel sites from Co-op and EG Group. The introduction of the first Express store by Asda took place in 2022.
David Lepley, the Chief Supply Chain Officer, expressed enthusiasm about commencing the next phase of the Express rollout. He highlighted the substantial growth from no convenience stores to nearly 500 stores within just three years, emphasizing the commitment to offering competitive prices in local communities.
In other recent developments, Asda revealed plans to enhance 180 of its in-store cafes through a £180 million investment. The refurbishments will include digital ordering screens, table ordering services, and manned tills for a seamless dining experience.
A revamped menu will feature new options like smashed avocado on toast, katsu chicken curry, salad bowls, wraps, nachos, loaded fries, and Asda pizzas in various flavors. Additionally, customers can expect new drink selections such as flavored iced coffees and a variety of cakes. Classic favorites like full English breakfast and fish and chips will continue to be available.
The refurbishment project, managed by partner Compass Group, is anticipated to be finished by the end of October. Asda currently operates 205 cafes, with the popular Kids Eat for £1 promotion to remain unchanged.
