A man who frequents beaches in pursuit of fossils recently made a remarkable discovery after meticulously examining numerous pebbles. Liam, a dedicated fossil hunter from Whitby, Yorkshire, often showcases his findings on his @forgottenfossils TikTok account. Fossils, which are the preserved remains of ancient organisms, can date back millions or even billions of years.
In a recent video, Liam excitedly shared his find of an ammonite fossil concealed within a nodule he uncovered on the beach. Despite initial doubts about its preservation due to previous experiences, he was astonished by the well-preserved specimen once he carefully cracked it open.
To ensure the fossil’s integrity, Liam delicately prepared it using specialized air tools. The end result was an exquisite “dactylioceras ammonite,” estimated to have been encased in rock for 180 million years. These creatures were known to scavenge on the seabed during their existence.
The online community marveled at Liam’s discovery, with individuals expressing awe at the fossil’s age and preservation. Over on the Yorkshire coast, another fossil enthusiast named Scott, residing in Holderness, also uncovered a rare find. Splitting open a rock he picked up, Scott was amazed to find a 190 million year old fossilized ammonite called Eleganticeras, a creature that lived alongside dinosaurs in ancient seas.
