A recent scam targeting individuals who made purchases on Amazon in March is causing concern, as it falsely claims a “product recall” has been initiated. The scam involves a text message alerting recipients with the headline “Amazon Product Recall Notice,” offering a full refund and prompting them to click a link to sign in to their Amazon account. The message even advises users to stop using the product immediately for added urgency.
The deceptive text, obtained by Mirror Online, informs customers that a product from their March 2026 order has been recalled due to a design flaw posing a safety risk. It reassures customers of Amazon’s continued trust and apologizes for any inconvenience caused. However, the claim of a recall is false, and the message is a phishing scam aimed at tricking worried customers into divulging their login details, potentially leading to unauthorized purchases, account lockouts, or data breaches.
While this particular scam is relatively new and impacting mobile phones, it is not the first time Amazon customers have been targeted. In a similar instance in February, cybercriminals sent messages alleging product recalls for safety reasons, linking to fraudulent Amazon pages, as reported by consumer group Which? Amazon has acknowledged the prevalence of scams that request payments via email, phone calls, or texts, urging customers to remain cautious and report any suspected fraudulent activities to protect their accounts.
Amazon also advises customers to exercise vigilance regarding unfamiliar phone numbers, unexpected order or delivery notifications, and links containing misspellings, unusual formatting, or non-standard URLs. By staying aware of these red flags, customers can better safeguard themselves against falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
