British Airways has decided to halt its sponsorship of the Louis Theroux podcast following an episode featuring Bob Vylan’s frontman. The punk duo caused a stir by chanting “death, death to the IDF” during a BBC livestreamed set at Glastonbury Festival.
Frontman Bobby Vylan, also known as Pascal Robinson-Foster, appeared on The Louis Theroux Podcast, affirming his lack of regret for the controversial chant. British Airways has suspended its advertising on the podcast, citing a breach of their sponsorship policy.
A spokesperson for BA informed the PA news agency that the sponsorship has been paused and the advert removed. They emphasized the importance of adhering to policies regarding politically sensitive or controversial topics. Investigations are underway to determine how this issue occurred.
Following the incident at Glastonbury, Avon and Somerset police launched an investigation into the group. As a result, the band faced repercussions, including being dropped from various festivals and performances. Despite facing backlash, the band’s album Humble As The Sun saw renewed success, topping the UK Hip Hop and R&B album charts.
When asked about the chant, Vylan expressed no remorse, stating he would repeat it if given the chance. He highlighted the minimal impact of the backlash compared to the hardships faced by people in Palestine. The band’s upcoming UK tour, We Won’t Go Quietly 2025, was announced following the album’s success.
