David Malukas set the pace during practice at the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy event in Markham with a swift lap time of 1:14.194 in the afternoon session. The qualifying round is scheduled for later in the evening.
Following Malukas, Alex Palou clocked in the second-best time of 1:14.560, while Dennis Hauger secured the third spot with a time of 1:14.592 around the Markham downtown road circuit.
The track sessions for the first day had to be called off due to incomplete course construction and pending safety assessments.
This year marks Markham’s debut as the host city for the race, replacing Toronto’s Exhibition Place, which had been the event’s venue since its inception in 1986.
Earlier in the day, Palou had topped the time charts during the morning practice session with a time of 1:14.9915.
