Millions of individuals are set to receive their benefit payments earlier this week from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Various benefits, including Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment, and the state pension, may be affected based on recipients’ usual payment schedules.

If your payment is due on Thursday, Christmas Day, or Boxing Day, you can expect to receive it earlier than usual on Christmas Eve, as DWP payments are not processed on bank holidays. Consequently, recipients receiving payments on Thursday, January 1, will likely receive them on Wednesday, December 31 instead.

In the event that you do not receive your benefit payment as expected, it is advisable to contact the relevant office online, by phone, or your local JobCentre upon reopening. Notably, helplines will be closed on bank holidays, necessitating contact on the next working day.

Benefit payments are primarily disbursed by the DWP, except for Tax Credits and Child Benefit managed by HMRC. Child Benefit payments, typically scheduled for Mondays and Tuesdays, should remain unaffected by Christmas bank holidays.
