Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper recently visited courageous young patients who were evacuated from Gaza for urgent medical treatment. Among them was 8-year-old Mohammed, who lost his leg in a bombing incident in Khan Younis four months ago. He underwent treatment in Jordan and was fitted with a prosthetic leg, showing remarkable progress in relearning how to walk.

During the visit to the Specialty Hospital in Amman, where medical staff are caring for patients from Gaza, Ms. Cooper praised Mohammed’s bravery and his aspirations to become a policeman like his father. Mohammed is currently continuing his education online while passionately following his favorite football team.

The Foreign Secretary also met with sisters Sarraa, 17, and Sara, 15, who sustained severe injuries from a bombing in December 2024. The sisters endured challenging conditions before being evacuated to Jordan, where they received critical medical attention, including surgeries to address their injuries.

Dr. Osama Hamed, a dedicated surgeon who has been providing medical assistance in Gaza, highlighted the dire healthcare situation in the region, citing shortages of supplies and resources that have led to difficult decisions being made by healthcare providers. Ms. Cooper emphasized the UK’s commitment to rebuilding Gaza’s healthcare system and expressed readiness to assist in further medical evacuations for treatment in the UK’s NHS.

Efforts are underway to collaborate with international partners to enhance healthcare support for Gaza and facilitate the restoration of vital health services in the region, underscoring the ongoing commitment to providing medical aid and support to those in need.
