Reports indicate that George Galloway was stopped under the Terrorism Act as he returned from Moscow, Met Police officers detaining the former MP upon arrival at Gatwick Airport along with his spouse.

Following a journey from Abu Dhabi after originating in Moscow, the couple, a man in his 70s and a woman in her 40s, were briefly detained but not formally arrested, later being permitted to continue their travels.

According to a Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the individuals were stopped under Schedule 3 of the Counter Terrorism and Border Security Act, which allows authorities to question and search individuals suspected of engaging in hostile activities upon entry to the UK.

Despite the incident, George Galloway, who recently declared his intention to run for the Scottish Parliament in Nicola Sturgeon’s constituency, was not arrested, and the Workers Party of Britain, led by Galloway, labeled the detention as politically driven intimidation.

In response to the detainment, the party expressed concern over the lack of information regarding the well-being and rights of Galloway and his wife, emphasizing the absence of details on any alleged offenses, leading them to perceive the situation as politically motivated.
