The current leader of the United States is drawing comparisons to the former British Prime Minister who attempted to negotiate with Hitler over Sudetenland, only to witness the Nazis seize control of all of Czechoslovakia.

It seems inevitable that Keir Starmer and other advocates of democracy in Europe will soon need to move beyond placating the erratic US President and instead firmly reject his alignment with the Kremlin, echoing a stance against a White House puppet of Moscow.

The actions of President Trump, urging Ukraine to cede both unconquered and occupied territories to Putin, weaken Kyiv’s military capabilities, making it susceptible to a potential new invasion from Moscow, and advocating for the withdrawal of NATO assistance, mirror a capitulation to Putin reminiscent of Chamberlain’s concessions to Hitler.

The security threat posed by China to Britain pales in comparison to the real danger presented by Trump’s cozy relationship with Putin, positioning him as an adversary within the NATO alliance.

In the UK, the recent sentencing of Nathan Gill, a former leader of the Reform party in Wales and a prominent member of Nigel Farage’s Ukip and Brexit Party factions in the European Parliament, to a 10-year prison term underscores how Putin leverages support from far-right figures to destabilize the country.

Gill was found to have accepted at least £30,000 to advance Russia’s agenda covertly during his time as a Member of the European Parliament, highlighting a shift from historical associations between elements of the British Left and authoritarian rulers to current alliances between right-wing nationalists and Russia’s interests, often under the guise of patriotism.

Brexit, a major objective for the Kremlin, has weakened both the UK and the European Union, with Farage’s past admiration for Putin and his close ties to Russian diplomats further complicating the situation. The reluctance of Reform party officials to endorse British military aid to Ukraine underscores these concerning dynamics.

Proposals to reduce foreign aid, a flagship initiative of the Reform party, could inadvertently play into Putin’s hands by aligning countries more closely with Russia, a move criticized as a “serious mistake” by Richard Dannatt, a former leader of the British Army.

The actions of Trump and his British allies pose a threat to freedom globally, necessitating a collective response to expose their true intentions, beginning with the Prime Minister.
